I am not a medical professional. A loved one was diagnosed in 2004 with AML-M4Eo, which prompted by research and eventually this site to help others dealing with AML make some sense of the complex nature of the disease, its treatment, and related research.  With a 19% long-term survival rate across all cohorts and the necessity of rapid, lengthy and particularly dangerous treatment, AML patients need as many resources as they can acquire.

This site assumes the reader already has some familiarity with AML and is looking for additional information, specifically on core binding factor AMLs, although there is a good deal of information on non-CBF AML here as well.  Even the CBF-AML pieces often contain comparative or informative information about other AMLs.

Also, please note that as I am not a medical professional I do not have the experience with or knowledge of hematologists around the country to enable me to make specific referals to individual doctors.  (Discussion of treatment centers is a different issue.)

I wish I could help, but unless you’re seeking treatment in Oklahoma I’m afraid I could do little more to learn about a doctor over the internet than could you, and so in good conscience cannot make recommendations on such an important decision.

I have had personal discussions with many hematologist/oncologists around the country (primarily researchers), and I can tell you if other hem/oncs have carried out a laundry list of studies, published numerous papers, or just know their stuff inside and out.  What I cannot tell you is if they’re taking patients or how to get in touch with them, if they practice in facilities you’d want to spend the next six or more months of your life in, or if they’re even attentive and diligent enough that you would want to be under their care.
